The inspiration for this drawing came from the fact that many people are mute, but also many people are unable to speak out for themselves or for those they love due to trauma or other disabilities. It doesn't matter really matter why they can't, but it's important that they feel they can't. The blue flower is a symbol of her muteness, tied to the color of the mute awareness ribbon.
